Rachel Branch & Queenie's Last
Training Tip
#4: Use the Shoulder-in exercise often. It's the
most important exercise. You ride inside leg to outside rein. In
the photo above, Jochen is assisting Rachel from the ground to
school the rein back. The horse needs to be on-the-bit and
round during the rein back. They also worked on canter to
walk transitions to improve the collection. He suggested to
Rachel to do lot's of transitions in her riding sessions. He
said don't start the transition when he's against your hand.
He wanted Rachel to keep him "more on the bit" so that
she could be light with her hands. They also worked on
keeping the horse's neck parallel to the track during the
haunches-in movement. Rachel is from Rose Hill, KS. and
Queenie's Last is a 14 year old bay TB gelding, 16 hands.
Rachel shows her horse at Second Level at recognized Dressage
Shows and competes at the Novice Level in Events. She is
working towards her USDF Bronze Medal. Photo
